Plants in the family Araceae are distributed all over the world, but especially in the tropics. Their tiny flowers form a compact spadix, covered with spathes when young. Spathes of the Calla lily (Zantedeschia) are pure white, while those of the flamingo flower (Anthurium andraeanum) are shiny, dark pink. With its huge size, the philodendron is already noticeable at the entrance. The varieties of dieffenbachia from South America and Aglaonema with white-spotted leaves are common houseplants. All members of the Araceae family contain toxins, so you should not chew their leaves.
