In the house of subtropical plants, which require only 10-12°C in winter, one of the Norfolk Island pine (Araucaria heterophylla) from the Pacific islands around Australia reaches up to the 14-metre high ridge of the building. The evergreen olive tree (Olea europaea) with silvery grey leaves and myrtle (Myrtus communis) are typical of the Mediterranean coast. The dragon blood tree (Dracaena draco), which is an orange sap-secreting plant, is native to the Canary Islands. The pineapple guava (Acca sellowiana) is native to the subtropics of South America, and its fleshy petals are edible.
